I'll have you know my grandma was using Linux just fine... was certainly a lot easier than windows changing random UI elements every time.

I always bring my telephoto lens. Since moving to a full frame camera I'm using a 70-300 most of the time and I rarely want a wider lens, more often I wish I brought my 600mm instead.

I also brought a 85mm prime which has been a lot of fun, while at the same time I've been lugging around a 35mm prime and barely used it.

You don't use them normally in the US, I've been referring to europe/amsterdam or europe/paris all my life in Linux installers and various equipment. I've never ever encountered netherlands/amsterdam or something like that.

From the list of deprecated zones, we could have been using "GB", "Poland", "Portugal", "CET", but that's about it. "Netherlands" didn't exist.

Given the old names were deprecated in 1993, it's hardly surprising that I never before discovered "GB".

It’s the same in Europe as it is in the US. Normal people refer to Europe/Paris as CET, just like normal people refer to America/New_York as Eastern Time.

Magic lantern is amazing. I'm still hoping a project grows for the other camera brands since I only have Nikon and Panasonic cameras.

Both cores are actually ARM cores, but you can switch both cores to be RISC-V cores as well on boot.

Technically that's four cores, two of which that can be active at once

Allocating a subnet is way further away from reality for most people than configuring one router feature on the router they're using.

There's also a lot of people that configure these devices (or linux routers) themselves but have never heard of VRFs, you got to learn about them somewhere so I just hope this helps some people :)

I see your point if someone is at the level of tinkering enough to learn Mikrotik gear. I was loosely equating VRF with general Linux policy routing, where you end up owning a bit more of an overarching config with fwmarks etc. And then I reasoned that Mikrotik was more complex than that, because I personally avoid doing config on my Mikrotik devices in favor of the Linux router (which is the opposite if you're coming at it unopinionated). But if someone wants to understand just enough networking to copy and paste Mikrotik examples, I do think your post is good general suggestion for that.

Hah I also have a smartphone prototype here powered by a single 18650 and I've already seen one of them turn into a smoke machine because the holder has protruding pins and doesn't fit most protected cells...

Two 18650s also sounds like it would be heavy for a badge

That's a lot of software setup for something that can easily be done in hardware. I've been over engineering things for years now.

For my mic I have also an sm57 feeding into a dbx286 hardware mic preamp and dynamics. Then feeding that into my audio interface for calls that also gives me a knob to mix in my mic into my headphone signal. This all gives me zero latency monitoring off all the gates and compression. Then for the output signal I have a seperate audio interface I use with all the web calling applications that sends the audio of all other people in the call to o another compressor that levels out their volumes. Then that is sent through a tc electronic multiband compressor unit to fix the really dull mics some people have. This is then mixed with the stereo output of all other applications on my audio interface again.

This way I have consistent audio no matter what OS I'm booted into at that moment.

i'm also an audio nerd and although I do everything in the box when i'm recording, i agree completely that it's way easier to use outboard stuff for this case. i had an analog channel strip but decided to try one of the very inexpensive behringer uv1 strips with an integrated usb interface and it's been great, the gate and compressor work well, and i have a rolls audio parametric eq in the effects loop to high pass and de-essing.

since it's convenient to use the headphone out on the uv1 for the headset, i do use a limiter plugin in Rogue Amoeba Soundsource to compress the output from the conferencing software we use, it's nice being able to do that per-application since i listen to music through the headset a lot and don't want to have to take the limiter in and out.

analog headsets are so much less annoying and flexible, huge fan

Maybe the CVE is being ignored because it's not such a big issue at all? It's already possible to cause a train to brake and make a disruption by pulling any of the emergency breaks inside it.

It would be great if you could just order them. Mine are also falling apart... I've replaced them with FOSDEM shirts now
